Articulation Modifier

DESCRIPTION: The Articulation Modifier alters the duration of notes by
shifting them.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: The Articulation Modifier Tool changes a note's duration by first scaling then shifting it. To set the degree of scaling, drag the Scale: slider. For example, if you set Scale: to 80%, every note will now be 80% its original length while Scale of 100% does absolutely nothing.

To change the shift amount, drag the Shift: slider. If you set Shift: to negative, Articulation Modifier shortens each note's duration by the amount specified. If you set Shift: to positive, it increases each duration by the amount specified.

Pro Studio Kit - DeFlam

Contents Index Help Prev Next

DeFlam

DESCRIPTION: DeFlam removes any duplicate notes that come too close to a preceding note. DeFlam can send the removed note to another Track, if desired.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: DeFlam keeps track of each note as it passes through the PipeLine. When a note enters, DeFlam checks the time and sets a delay timer. If another note of the same type enters and falls within the delay time, DeFlam throws that second note away, or brnaches it to another Track, if it is connected. To set the delay, enter it after the Delay: prompt.

Pro Studio Kit - DeGlitch

Contents Index Help Prev Next

DeGlitch

DESCRIPTION: DeGlitch removes notes with very short duration. Useful for removing tiny "glitch" notes created by guitar controllers, as well as accidental notes that sometimes occurs when lazy fingers bump two keys on a keyboard by mistake.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: DeGlitch erases all notes with durations below a set minimum. To set the minimum duration, drag the Min Length: slider.

NOTE: When you enter notes from you keyboard, the DeGlitch Tool delays them slightly. This is necessary in order for the DeGlitch Tool to determine whether the notes are above minimum duration. However, they record properly into the Sequencer and playback properly when the DeGlitch Tool sits in the Output PipeLine.

Pro Studio Kit - Event Smoother

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Event Smoother

DESCRIPTION: The Even Smoother Tool fills the gaps between continuous controller, pitch bend, and after-touch events. For example, you may wish to fill in a smooth transition between two Pitch Bend events.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: To specify which types of events Event Smoother will fill, click on the Pitch Bend, Mono A-Touch, Poly A-Touch and Control Ch: buttons. If you are smoothing Control Change events, select the controller number by draggin the slider. For example, to smooth a volume curve, set the slider to Controller #7.

To set the minimum interval between values, drag the Minimum Step: slider. If you want a high resolution curve, set Minimum Step: to very small. For a coarser resolution, drag Minimum Step: to the right. Note that all Controllers and After-Touch Events have a range of 0 to 127. On the other hand, Pitch Bend Events range from -8194 to +8193 and should have a larger Minumum Step.

The Event Smoother works best in the ToolPad, since it often needs to smooth between events that are a great distance apart in time.

Pro Studio Kit - Feels Good

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Feels Good

DESCRIPTION: Feels Good shifts and randomizes the time and dynamics of selevted notes in order to control the "feel" of your drum track. Each note of a 16-note drum kit can be moved independantly ahead of or behind the beat, as well as have its dynamics and time altered randomly.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: To edit up to sixteen drum notes, open Feels Good's Control window. Each drum note has a set of six parameters arranged in a horizontal strip across the window. To scroll through the sixteen sets, drag the vertical slider on the far right of the window.

Begin by setting the names and MIDI note numbers for each drum. By default, Feels Good open with these preset for the Roland MT-32 drum kit. To change a drum name, click on it with the mouse, then edit the text. To change the MIDI note number, drag the slider shown under the name.

Once you've specified your names and note numbers, set the Time Shift & Feel in the centre column, The top slider sets the Time Shift. To move the drum earlier in time, drag the Time Shift to the left. To move the drum later in time, drag the Time Shift to the right.

Add a "human feel" by draggin the Time Feel: slider. This slider adds a shade of randomness to the time. The greater the Feel: number, the more the timing will vary.

Finally, set the Dynamic Shift & Feel sliders in the right column. These sliders control the dynamics, or velocity of each drum note. The upper slider set the dynamic shift. A positive value increases the velocity of each note, while a negative value decreases each note's velocity. For example, if you'd like to bring up your snare drum, you might add a shift of 20. Add randomness to the velocity by dragging the second slider to the right.

Pro Studio Kit - Jump Start

Jump Start

DESCRIPTION: Jump Start begins the recording process the first time a note enters the PipeLine. Use this to help automate the recording process.

USAGE: PipeLine.

CONTROLS: Jump Start will start the recording process the first time a note enters the PipeLine. Enter the starting time after the Start: prompt.

To temporarily disable Jump Start, click on the Active button.

Pro Studio Kit - Note Converter

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Note Converter

DESCRIPTION: The Note Converter Tool transforms one specific note into another.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: Two sliders control this Tool: The From Note: slider determines the note that Note Converter will change. The To Note: slider sets the new value of the converted note.

Pro Studio Kit - NoteFilter

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Note Filter

DESCRIPTION: The Note Filter Tool is an improved version of the original Note Filter Tool included with Barsss&Pamp;Pamp;Pipes Professional. This original Tool filters out all notes within a specified range and either removes them or sends them to another Track. The new Note Retlif MacroTool included in this collection performs the inverse: it passes on all notes between the filter points and throws out the remainder.

SPECIAL TYPE: Branching.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: To set the filter range, drag the Highest: and Lowest: sliders. The Note Filter Tool will send all notes between (and including) these values to another Track. If you haven't connected Note Filter to another Track, they will be discarded.

Pro Studio Kit - NoteMapper

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Note Mapper

DESCRIPTION: The Note Mapper Tool translates every MIDI note to a different MIDI note. It stores a list of all notes and their corresponding mapped notes. Use this Tool, among other things, for translating between drum settings. Your note maps may be loaded and saved as disk files for future use.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: To display each MIDI note, drag the Mapped From: slider. Each note may be mapped to any other note. Choose the reciprocal note by dragging the Mapped To: slider.

The Note Mapper also contains three menu options. Select Load to load a previously saved note map from disk, select Save to save the current note map to disk and select Reset to reset all notes to map to their original positions.

Pro Studio Kit - Note Retlif

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Note Retlif

DESCRIPTION: The Note Retlif Tool performs the inverse of the Note Filter Tool by filtering out all note outside of a specific range. See the Note Filter Tool for details.

SPECIAL TYPE: Branching, MacroTool.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: See the Note Filter Tool.

Pro Studio Kit - On Hold

Contents Index Help Prev Next

On Hold

DESCRIPTION: The On Hold Tool merges the Hold Pedal and Note Events, eliminating the need for Hold Pedal information. Normally, Control Change #64 carries Hold Pedal down and up events. On Hold remembers when the Hold Pedal is on and off. Notes that occur while the hold pedal is on have their durations extended until the time the Hold Pedal turns off. In turn, On Hold discards all Control Change #64 Events.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: None.

Pro Studio Kit - Pitch Bender

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Pitch Bender

DESCRIPTION: The Pitch Bender Tool simulates a pitch bend wheel for Barsss&Pamp;Pamp;Pipes Professional users with no pitch bend wheel but with pitch bend capable output devices. In addition, the Pitch Bender may be set NOT to snap back to the centre (as a real pitch bend wheel does) in order to create interesting pitch bend effects. Like MixMaestro, Pitch Bender inserts the pitch bend curve diredctly into the Track. In addition, you can save and load different pitch bend curves from the ClipBoard.

USAGE: PipeLine.

CONTROLS: If Pitch Bender sits in the Output PipeLine, it will display the movement of Pitch Bend events in its Control window, much like the automated mix sliders in MixMaestro. When you place it in the input PipeLine, it will still create and record Pitch Bends, but will not display them.

The Pitch Bender Control window contains just one item - the Pitch Bend slider. This slider acts just like a pitch bend wheel. Click and drag it to send Pitch Bend Events down the PipeLine.

The Pitch Bender Menu provides additional options: Bypass, Snap To Center, Copy To ClipBoard, Past from ClipBoars, and Clear.

To disable the Pitch Bending in the Track (but only if Pitch Bender is in the Output PipeLine), select Bypass.

Select Snap To Center if you want the slider to snap back to center every time you lift up with the mouse.

To save a particular Pitch Bend curve to the ClipBoard, select Copy to ClipBoard. This pulls the current pitch bend curve from the Track and places a copy of it in the ClipBoard.

To retrieve a pitch bend curve from the ClipBoard, select the Paste From ClipBoard command. This replaces the pitch bend currently in the Track with the pitch bend curve selected in the ClipBoard.

To remove all Pitch Bend events fromthe Track and start over, select the Clear command.

Pro Studio Kit - Remote Patch

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Remote Patch

DESCRIPTION: The Remote Patch Tool allows you to designate part of your keyboard as various program change buttons. This provides a quick and easy way to switch between a small number of patches while playing.

NOTE: Since Remote Patch is a MacroTool you must make sure that its component Tools, Note Filter, Note Mapper, Merge and Event Converter, are loaded in the ToolBox.

SPECIAL TYPE: MacroTool.

USAGE: PipeLine.

CONTROLS: This MacroTool contains a Note Filter Tool to filter out the notes used for patches. Notes filtered from the PipeLine are passed to a Note Mapper Tool, which converts the notes into the desired patch numbers. An Event Converter Tool then changes the notes into Program Change Events. To set your Program Changes, change the values in the Note Mapper Tool.

Pro Studio Kit - Retranscriber

Contents Index Help Prev Next

ReTranscriber

DESCRIPTION: The ReTranscriber Tool forces Barsss&Pamp;Pamp;Pipes Professional to retranscribe all affected notes. When used in the Sequence Editor's notation display, notes touched (or Toolized) with this Tool get completely retranscribed.

USAGE: ToolPad.

CONTROLS: None.

Pro Studio Kit - Sttrrreeeetttcch

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Sttrrreeeetttcch

DESCRIPTION: This Tool stretches and squeezaes a section of Track in time by a pre-defined ratio. Use it to double, triple, half, stretch or squeeze any section of music by any fraction.

USAGE: ToolPad.

CONTROLS: This Tool only works with the Toolize command in conjunction with the Edit Flags. First, set the Flags in order to mark the boundaries of the section you'd like to stretch. Then, open the Sttrrreeeetttcch Control window to set the stretch ration.

The upper slider,Final Range:, corresponds to the top part of the stretch ration, while the Inital Range: slider corresponds to the bottom part of the ratio. For example, to double a section, set Initial Range: to 1, and Final Range: to 2, yielding a fraction of 2 over 1. Or, to squeeze a section down to one third its original length, set Initial Range: to 3 and Final Range: to 1, yielding 1 over 3.

Pro Studio Kit - Super Setup

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Super Setup

DESCRIPTION: The Super Setup Tool defines an initial setup for a Track including patch, volume, pan, and up to two user defined Control Change Events. This information may then be inserted into a Track at the current Song Position Marker by using Super Setup's Write to Track feature. In addition, each Super Setup transmits this information down its Track every time the sequence starts.

Super Setup also features the ability to select patches (program changes) by name and patch number, as well as the ability to edit and save patch names for your own synthesizers. When you first place a Super Setup Tool in a PipeLine, it looks for a file name called "default.patch" in the directory that contains Barsss&Pamp;Pamp;Pipes Professional. If "default.patch" exists, Super Setup loads that file. New patch files may always be loaded later if desired.

USAGE: PipeLine.

CONTROLS: The five sliders representing Patch, Volume, Pan and two user definable Control Changes are the heart of Super Setup. Each of these represents a preset value that Super Setup can install in the Track. Drag each slider to change its value.

To set the two Controller numbers, enter them in after the CC#: prompts. For example, to set the Modulation Wheel value, set one prompt to Controller number 1.

To the left of each slider, you'll find a check box which you may turn off and on. Super Setup will only use the information for those sliders with check marks next to them. Super Setup automatically sends this information whenever you activate the Start button in the Transport Controls window.

You can also permanently embed information into a Track. To do so, click on the Write To Track button. This writes all active information directly into the Track at the current position of the Song Position Marker.

The Test button sends out a series of notes to test the current patch sound, volume, etc.

Directly above and connected to the Patch slider, you'll find a button that lists patch names. With Super Setup you can customize a list of patch names. With Super Setup, you can customize a list of patch names and corresponding oatch numbers. Once you have defined this information, a pop-up menu of all patches will be displayed in alphabetical order, so that you may select the patch by name rather than by number.

Access the Super Setup menu, by clicking and holding the right mouse button, once you've selected Super Setup. The following commands are available: Load Patch Names, Save Patch Names, Edit Patch Names and Clear Patch Names.

To load a patch name list, select Load Patch Names. This opens the Barsss&Pamp;Pamp;Pipes Professional File Requester. Select the patch name file and Super Setup will load it, replacing the current list.

To save a patch name list, select Save Patch Names. This saves the patch name list to a file of your choice. Use this to create you default patch file. To do so, first creat a patch list that defines your synthesizers presets (see next paragraph). Then save the list with the Save Patch Names command in the following manner:

In the File Requester, select the current directory by clearing the field after the Drawer: prompt. Type "default" after the File: prompt and click on the Save button. This saves the patch list in a file called "default.patch" . From now on, every time you drag a Super Setup Tool into a PipeLine, it will load this list of patches.

To create or edit a patch name list, select Edit Patch Names. This opens the Patch Name Requester. Select a patch number by typing after the Patch: prompt or clicking on the up and down arrows. Enter the patch name after the Name: prompt. After you enter thename, press the return key and the requester will automatically prompt you for the next patch. When you have finished, click on the Okay button to close the requester.

Pro Studio Kit - Velocity Controller

Contents Index Help Prev Next

Velocity Controller

DESCRIPTION: The Velocity Controller blends Control Change Events with Note Events so that the Control Change Events determine the velocity of notes passing through. For example, use the Velocity Controller Tool to use Control Change #1 (Modulation Wheel) Events. Then play a sequence while moving the wheel. As you move the wheel up, notes get louder. Pull the wheel down and they get quieter.

NOTE: If you have a synthesizer that does not respond to MIDI volume commands, use the Velocity Controller to convert MixMaestro's Control Change #7 volume events into note velocities.

USAGE: PipeLine, ToolPad.

CONTROLS: Drag the Control #: slider to set the Controller number.
