SETUPS Chapter 10 What Are Setups? Previously saved Banks, SysEx files, Snapshots and Capture files can be grouped into ÒsetupsÓ so that MIDI environments can be recreated by sending a single Setup file instead of sending many individual MIDI files. Setups are simply a list of filenames. They are the names of all of the files that will be sent to your synth(s) when you instruct The PatchMeister to send that Setup. Setups do not store MIDI routes. When a Setup is sent to your synth(s), the individual files are sent one at a time using the MIDI routes that were saved those files. File A will be sent using the MIDI route that was saved with File A, File B will be sent using the MIDI route saved with File B, etc. Setup windows simply list all of the files that are induded in the Setup. The name of the file is followed by its Library and directory path. Setups are built by dragging filenames from different Library windows (or other Setup windows) into the Setup window being edited. Setups cannot contain the filenames of other Setup files. Opening A Setup Window There are two (2) ways to open a Setup window: 1. Select the MIDI menu New Setup... item to open an empty Setup window. 2. Double-click on a Setups filename in a Library window to open a previously saved Setup. Saving Setups The Project menu Save or Save As... options can be used to save the active Setup window. Setups are automatically placed into the Snaps & Setups Library which can be opened by selecting the Library menu Snaps & Setups option. Sending Setup Windows To Your Synth When you select the MIDI menu Send to Synth... item, a requester will open asking you to confirm your intention to send the active Setup window. Use the QUIT button if you do not want to send the Setup. Once you click on the SEND button, the Setups individual MIDI files will be sent one by one and the requester will be updated accordingly. If you click on the QUIT button after the ÒsendÓ has started, The PatchMeister will stop sending the Setup after it has finished sending the current MIDI file. Creating Setups The remainder of this chapter will explain how to create Setups once you have opened an empty Setup window through selecting the MIDI menu New Setup item. Notes & Search Keys If you press the left mouse button while pointing over the Setups name, you will be presented with a requester displaying the current comment and search key that is associated with this Setup. You may change this text in any way. NOTE> It's not necessary to add comments and/or search keys to your Setups, but it is highly recommended. The Library menu Find... option can use both of these fieJds to search itrough your Libraries and locate matching flIes. Also, you can use the Library menu Options.. Item to set the DISPLAY ALL INFO view option so that your Libraries display the search key and comment gong wflh the Setup file name. Setup Editing Buttons Setups are edited through use of the buttons located on the right-hand side of every Setup window. When you click over one of these buttons, the button will become highlighted and the cursor will change to reflect the edit mode (button) you have just chosen. You will remain in this edit mode until you click over a different button or you click on the same button a second time to shut it off. The function of each button is described below: ¥ The HAND button allows you to drag filenames into a Setup window or rearrange filenames within a specific Setup window. You may drag filenames from any Library or Setup window. If you should elect to drag a filename within one Setup window and drop it past the end of the list, a duplicate filename will be appended to the end of the SetupÕs filename list. ¥ The SWAP button allows you to swap selected filenames within or among Setup windows. Point to a Setup window filename and press the left mouse button as you drag this filename around the screen. Release the left mouse button when you are over the filename that you would like to swap. ¥ The ERASER button allows you to delete filenames from a specific Setup window. Press the left mouse button as you point to the filename you want deleted. The filename will be deleted when you release the mouse button. ¥ The TARGET button provides yet another way to build Setups. First, select the Setup you want to build by clicking the left mouse button while pointing over the Setups TARGET button. The button will become selected, indicating that you have just marked this Setup as the ÒTARGETÓ Setup (or the Setup you wish to update). The pointer will turn into a small target to show that the program is waiting for you to select any filename(s) you want placed into the ÒTARGETÓ Setup. Press the left mouse button as you point to the filename(s) you want copied into the ÒTARGETÓ Setup. The selected filename(s) will be appended to the end of the ÒTARGETÓ Setup. You may select filenames from any Library or Setup window.
