SYSEX FILES Chapter 8 What Are SysEx Files? From The PatchMeisters paint of view, MIDI instruments contain Banks and SysEx files. Banks can be sub-divided into patches, SysEx files cannot be broken down into individual patches. A single timbre, sequencer data, and a program change table would all be considered SysEx files. SysEx files are displayed using the SysEx window. The name of the Driver and the type of SysEx file are both displayed in the windows title bar. NOTE If you donÕt have a driver for a particular SysEx file type, you can still receive undefined SysEx flies by using the Capture file option. (Please see Chapter 11) Opening a SysEx Window There are several ways to open a SysEx window: 1. Select the MIDI menu Get From Synth... item and then request a SysEx file from your synthesizer. 2. Double-click on a SysEx files filename in a Library window to open a previously saved SysEx file. 3. Use the Project menu Impart item to successfully import a SysEx file. Saving SysEx Files The Project menu Save or Save As... items can be used to save the active SysEx window. Sending SysEx Windows To Your Synth SysEx windows can be sent to your synth in one of two ways: By selecting the MIDI menu Send To Synth item or by clicking over the SysEx windowÕs MIDI route button. In both cases, the MIDI route requester will open. Adjust the MIDI route (if necessary) and then click over the SEND button. The contents of the SysEx window will be sent to your synth using the designated MIDI route. Notes & Search Keys If you like, you may use the two (2) SysEx window string gadgets to attach a comment and search key to a SysEx file before you save it. The Library menu Find., option can use both of these fields to search through your Libraries and locate matching MIDI files. Also, you can use the Library menu Options... item to set the DISPLAY ALL INFO view option so that your Libraries display the search key and comment along with with the SysEx file name. You will find use of these string gadgets is well worth the effort! MIDI Route Use the MIDI Route button to invoke display of the MIDI route requester.
